Eye Of The North is for the birds!
I love it.
I've always enjoyed the bird pets, but I had always wanted there to be more flying birds. Before Eye Of The North, we only had Phoenixes as flapping familiars. Now, we have three more fliers: the Mountain Eagle, the Raven, and the Rainbow Phoenix.
That's three times as many flying animals in one installment as there were in all three chapters before it! And better yet, all three are very well done.
Now, I admit that I was a little bummed out that the last group of pets we'll ever get did not come with an owl, but to see all of these other birds makes me happy.
There are more, though! Arenanet didn't forget the moa-lovers and Big Bird-huggers. White Moas can easilly be tamed just outside of Olafstead--there's a huge flock of them that don't even go agressive when you use charm animal!
All in all, I just wanted to say: thanks for all the feathers. :V

Well, you have to take into account the type of birds are needed as a pet built for attacking. The phoenix is mythical, so anything goes. The raven, as big as it is, and the mountain eagle are birds of prey, so they work as attack pets.
Owls hunt rats, not Charr, last I heard.

You left out the Black Moa Chick!
Now, if only the Rainbow Pheonix was a weeee bit more attainable.
It should be hard to get, but not "People Know Me" hard.

Ravens are not birds of prey. Owls are. A bird of prey is a bird that hunts with its talons.
Ravens are in fact songbirds.

Ravens hunt with their beaks more then their talons. Though they will hunt their own food, especially in winter. In Alaska it was discovered by checking the stomach contents of Ravens that 50% of their diet was live prey in winter.

My white moa is > all.
As a bird person, I'm definitely enjoying the wide variety of avian wildlife!
EDIT: I agree with you, Wolfwing! I was disappointed to see that we get an Asura, a Dwarf, a Norn, and even a flippin' Centaur, but no Tengu? What gives?

Only thing that annoys me is they are missing the single most important bird feature. A hero Tengu..:> I at least hope they are playable in GW2.

Seriously? I picked up a Mountain Eagle for Pyre, got it to L20 Hearty, and it's.. pretty much the same size.

does the raven have the same animation as the phoenix and mountain eagle, in that they fly for a while, then land, then fly again?
somehow I was expecting something like the NWN raven familiar, which iirc always hovered about you.

It does have the same animation, so it's kinda weird behaviour for a raven. It's still a nice addition though.
